“Now I’m thinking out of the box and I can see how that will help me in my future. I know I made the right choice every time I go to class because I’m around people who are giving me the best chance at being my best.
Erin Miller got an early and dire start in understanding the importance of excellence in healthcare.
When she was 8-years-old, her brother, three years younger, was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Doctors were able to give him 13 more years. “I got to watch him grow up, Erin says.  “He is why I became interested in healthcare.
He passed at age 18.
“A few years later, Erin was expecting her first child and learned there was a genetic mutation on the maternal side to the disease that took her brother. “I went to the doctor and it was just this fantastic experience,â€ she says. “We sat at this table together, at eye level, and she taught me and helped me so I could understand what was going on.â€
Erin says when she became a pharmacist, she modeled her doctor’s approach. “I grab a chair or sit on the edge of the bed eye-to-eye and have real conversations. I always want to be the best I can be.
As Erin’s career progressed, she grew more interested in pharmacy management. “I wanted to be where I knew the staff and professors cared as much as I cared.
Erin says MHA is exactly that kind of program.
“It has broadened my viewpoint of healthcare. I can see the silos within pharmacy that I didn’t even see working there, she says. “Now I’m thinking out of the box and I can see how that will help me in my future. I know I made the right choice every time I go to class because I’m around people who are giving me the best chance at being my best.
