Ready to find out what °®ÒºAƬ can do for you? We’ve got you covered.
°®ÒºAƬ’s academic micro-credentials and digital badges recognize focused learning, skills, and demonstrated competencies. The university’s Micro-Credential and Digital Badging program provides the framework for developing, approving, and awarding badges associated with academic coursework, campus experiences, and other approved learning opportunities.
Micro-credentials are not in themselves credit-bearing, but they can be made up of components that include credit or noncredit courses and learning experiences. For example, earning a micro-credential may include completion of a course component, a full course, or a set of courses.
Micro-credentials cannot be used to fulfill certificate, degree, or program requirements on their own and will not be listed on a student’s transcript. If courses offering academic credit are part of the micro-credential, those courses will be listed on the transcript and can also be applied to other program requirements.
Transfer courses and credits accrued through prior learning may be used to demonstrate micro-credential competencies, though these will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are dependent on the competencies and type of artifact required for the specific micro-credential.
Digital badges are electronic emblems that serve as evidence of an individual’s completion of a micro-credential and represents competencies related to a specific topic or topics. Digital badges can include metadata on the evidence of learning and link to the sponsoring institution and evaluation criteria.
Badges at °®ÒºAƬ are awarded through Credly.
°®ÒºAƬ students, faculty, and staff can earn badges by completing micro-credential programs associated with academic work, campus activities, or demonstrated competencies. Transfer credits and prior learning may count toward certain micro-credentials.
The program extends to °®ÒºAƬ alumni and the community.
University employees can create and award badges. Departments and units interested in creating badge programs must designate a program manager and secure administrative support.
